In the project named Vault 7, Wikileaks has showcased that CIA can turn your TV into a mic, hack into computers and can bypass the encryption system of some popular apps by accessing your operating system and much more. Now, Wikileaks has revealed a new set of tools which is aimed at shutting down CCTV camera which allows its agents to perform secret missions without being caught on video. The new set of tools is known as Dumbo. Dumbo can not only block cameras, microphones and surveillance software, it can also scan for audio and video recordings. Dumbo can be utilized to corrupt the files stored in security tools in a way which can’t be recovered. According to the reports from Wikileaks, Dumbo reached version 3.0 and it can be operated on almost every Windows versions from Windows XP to Windows 10. WikiLeaks says “Dumbo is a capability to suspend processes utilizing webcams and corrupt any video recordings that could compromise a PAG deployment. The PAG (Physical Access Group) is a special branch within the CCI (Center for Cyber Intelligence); its task is to gain and exploit physical access to target computers in CIA field operations,” However, Dumbo needs physical access to victims computer, because the software needs to be executed from a USB stick. It also needs to gather the administrator access to hack surveillance software. However, the reports from Wikileaks also states that gaining administrator access is something an agency can do comfortably. Once connected, Dumbo takes over the victims computer and immediately shuts down surveillance devices and software. Not only these, Dumbo also looks for additional devices which could be a part of the network, which needs to be corrupted completely. If somehow dumbo fails to work, CIA agents can cause Blue screen of Death on the connected Windows system which could knock the whole ecosystem making the surveillance cameras useless.
